LEEDS INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION’S PRINCIPAL PARTNER – UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS

The University of Leeds is proud to have been a key partner of Leeds International Piano Competition since its inception. Together we have ambitious plans to harness our shared passion for educating, inspiring and motivating the next generation of musicians and music lovers across the globe.

“We are honoured to build on our longstanding relationship with the Leeds International Piano competition as it evolves - with global heats and web streaming bringing performances to new audiences around the world. These innovations resonate with the University’s own view of the role and potential of culture: that it should be accessible, democratic and enriching.” Sir Alan Langlands, Vice-Chancellor

“We would like to express our gratitude to our Principal Partner the University of Leeds. From the outset the University has generously supported the Competition, providing its wonderful facilities, staff and buildings, and ensuring that both the competitors, as well as jury and staff, are wonderfully looked after. Now that support has been greatly enhanced, resulting in a unique partnership between this world-famous University and The Leeds that is distinguished by a shared passion for excellence.” Paul Lewis and Adam Gatehouse - Co-Artistic Directors, Leeds International Piano Competition

ALL-STEINWAY SCHOOL

In 2017 the School of Music at the University of Leeds gained the coveted All-Steinway School status, the first of the Russell Group universities in the UK to do so. The University invested just over £742,000 in 27 pianos designed by Steinway & Sons—a combination of uprights, baby grands and a concert grand. Guido Zimmermann, Vice-President and Managing Director for Steinway & Sons Europe, said: "There are few places in the world for students to apply where the majority of the school of music’s pianos are new Steinways. It is highly befitting that the University of Leeds is now amongst the elite few, not only enabling musicians to reach their full potential, but also enriching the student experience of every student with a passion for music. We are honored to be accrediting University of Leeds’ School of Music as an All-Steinway School."
