杨远帆出生于爱丁堡，6 岁时开始学习钢琴，10 岁获得了英国皇家音乐学院联合委员会初级文凭 (Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (DipABRSM))。杨远帆曾多次在钢琴比赛中夺得桂冠，其中包括 2015 年美国克利夫兰国际年轻艺术家钢琴比赛 (Cleveland International Young Artists Piano Competition in the USA)、第四届国际弗朗茨·李斯特钢琴比赛 (International Franz Liszt Piano Competition)、2015 年英国李斯特学会国际奖 (UK Liszt Society International Prize)。2012 年，他荣获 BBC 年轻音乐家大赛 (BBC Young Musician) 钢琴冠军 (Keyboard Winner) 和总决赛入围选手。2007 年和 2008 年，BBC 二台曾播放他创作的 G 大调幻想曲 (Fantasy in G)。2011 年，他创作的《波光荡漾》(Waves) 荣获英国钢琴教师协会 (EPTA UK) 作曲年赛跨组奖 (Overall Award)。2014 年，他在中国黔江首次演奏自己创作的钢琴协奏曲《原野》(The Wilderness)，随后曾在曼彻斯特、伦敦和巴黎演出过这首作品。2017 年，这首作品赢得了中国国家艺术基金。2018 年 6 月，在该基金的支持下，他与中国歌剧舞剧院交响乐团在中国东北进行了四场巡演。
