Leeds is all set to celebrate the piano in grand style.

The competition season is about to be kicked off in the home of fire-breathing pianistic virtuosity and brings you this year's wave of talent, selected from a global pool in three different cities by our international panel of judges, led by Paul Lewis CBE and Adam Gatehouse as Co-Artistic Directors, and honoured to have the support of Murray Perahia as Patron and Lang Lang as Global Ambassador.

This year's festival is the most expansive and innovative yet, combining The Leeds’ commitment to excellence with an expansive approach as the competition bursts out of the concert hall and onto the city streets. The Leeds will be making, inspiring and sharing music with a series of pop-up installations and broadcasts including The World’s Smallest Concert Hall and the Leeds Piano Trail, comprising twelve artist commissioned pianos played by the public and some very special guests.

Through an inspiring and intensive process of assessment, the judging panel whittled down hundreds of applicants to just twenty-four strikingly accomplished young pianists from sixteen countries whose performances in first rounds are now available on replay here.

They’ll be bringing their world of talents to Leeds from September 6th for a breathtaking fortnight of passion and performance. Check the schedules of each contestant here.

If you want to know what makes musicians tick, there will be interviews, live-casts and backstage stories, expos and enrichment programming, with judges, piano-positive celebrities and past and current performers in the city center and before concerts, as well as the fiercely fought competition second, semi and final rounds.

The Leeds is here, and the lid is open.
